Why use The Kingdom Code as a Unit Study?

There are many different approaches to teaching a child. Some choose to stick to a curriculum while others choose to use Unit Studies. While attending a convention recently, we had one homeschool mom tell us that she successfully used our program as a unit study. So, “What is a Unit Study?” A unit study focuses on one particular theme to teach several subjects related to that theme. The Kingdom Code, for example, incorporates math, reading, economics, writing, and history to teach entrepreneurship. Life skills, social skills, and Biblical principles are taught as well. How are these subjects covered in The Kingdom Code?
-Math is covered throughout the program using hands-on activities. From counting money back to customers to keeping a business ledger. They learn about fractions, estimating numbers, percentages, decimals, and rounding up numbers. They even learn about an income statement. -Economics in the program covers Supply and Demand, capitalism, free enterprise, how an economy grows, and the interdependence of the world. -Writing is used in their businesses throughout the course. Students research and complete personal Business Plans, learn to write proper and personal thank you notes, and engage in creative writing activities. In each lesson, students learn key business terms and vocabulary words. They read Bible verses about what God says about money. Confidence and character development are encouraged through reviewing character codes such as: Be Honest, Have Integrity, Be Grateful, and Show Generosity and considering actions of certain people from the Bible. Exciting history highlights and historical fiction stories about Charles Goodnight, Joan of Arc, Anne Sullivan and Helen Keller, plus many more stories illustrate the qualities of leaders and successful entrepreneurs.
As a Unit Study, The Kingdom Code: Make and Manage Money...God’s Way! has 27 lessons that can be covered quickly or at your own pace. Keep in mind, some lessons require more time than others, especially the first eight lessons when the students build their businesses. Why use The Kingdom Code as a Unit Study instead of stretching the program over an entire school year? If your student is highly motivated to start a business, a Unit Study is a fabulous approach to quickly get them started. Another possibility is teaching the program over the summer to keep children engaged in learning while having fun and making money!
