Whatever Happened to Delayed Gratification?
| |
Does money burn a hole in your child's pocket? Daily, children see that in one swipe of a credit card, it is so easy to make a purchase. This makes it very difficult to teach children delayed gratification.
That's Where The Kingdom Code Comes In!
In the program as soon as a child chooses a business, a contract is signed between the child and his or her parents or guardians. The contract states where the child's business money will be kept and the child also agrees not to remove any money unless it is for business expenses.
Children build their businesses and all earned income is stored in each child's Business Money Keeper. This money is supposed to stay there until the end of the course. Hopefully by the end of the program, the Business Money Keeper is bursting at the seams! (Of course, it is always an option for parents to decide if they will allow the child to remove money prior to the end of the program.)
The Kingdom Code was designed to teach children delayed gratification by saving their business money for an extended period of time. Along the way, perhaps students can start planning to buy something large. Maybe they will want to reinvest the income in their current business or start a new one. The whole idea is to get children to think and plan for the future rather than having the money burn a hole in their pockets.
Only through first-hand experience can children best learn not to impulse buy. If we don't teach them, who will?
