Productivity! Where are you my old friend? It may be trapped at the bottom of my purse, covered in animal crackers and snotty tissues.
Anyone else feel like it’s hard to be productive these days? I always think it’s difficult to stay on top of my schedule in the fall months, but then late winter/spring hits! Oh boy! You may be dealing with spring sports, or you may be struggling to stay on schedule with your homeschooling so you can enjoy a spring break. Any way you slice it, this is a BUSY time of year. It helps to do little things along the way to stay organized and productive during the crazy days. Here are 5 simple ways to help you with productivity this week!
I LOVE lists! You may not be like me in this way, or you may loathe making lists. It might seem painstaking at first, but it will help SO much to keep you on task throughout your week. I work from home so objective lists are a MUST! Even if you work outside of the home or are a stay-at-home mom, making an objective list can be very helpful. I like to sit down either on Sunday or early Monday morning and make a list of priority tasks for every day of the week. It doesn’t have to include a full itinerary, hour to hour. Just jobs that need to be accomplished. For example my Monday objective list looks like this:
Write blog
Schedule posts
Outline videos
Send emails
Print invitations
Go over meeting details
Plan menu
Do this for every day this week, and I promise that you will see priority tasks actually completed every day!
I recently read about a businessman that zeroes out his email inbox every day before going home. What does that even look like??
A couple of months ago, I let me email inbox get to over 10,000 messages. I was completely overwhelmed by all of the important messages that I felt like were getting buried by junk subscriptions. I decided to do something about it. I found Unroll.me. You can sign-up through your browser or download the app for your phone. It gathers up all of your new email subscriptions, then sends you an email which allows you to unsubscribe to all of these mailing lists in one place. This means whenever I get the bug to subscribe to another mailing list, but then NEVER read the emails, Unroll.me will remind me to unsubscribe. This didn’t help me delete all of my emails, but it did keep my inbox from getting back to the same monstrosity that it was. I’m down to a little over 2,000 emails now. Still going toward that 0, though! Less mess, less stress!
It’s almost time for spring cleaning! Ugh. Get a jump-start and clean out and/or organize your closet. Like me, I’m sure you have items in there that don’t fit or that you don’t even care to wear anymore. Say “Good riddance!” to those clothes you probably didn’t even know you had. You can donate some items and even take other items to a resale shop for some extra cash. We’re heading in to a new season, so now is the time to take those warmer weather items for top dollar! You’ll love the extra room in your closet, and you’ll be able to find the items you truly enjoy wearing so much easier!
My nightstand is my catch all. I come home at night, empty my pockets and all the contents get dumped on that nightstand. It also holds my lamp, books, phone, lotion, medicine, snacks, charging cables, water bottle, and millions of bobby pins.
Oy vey!
That’s a lot of clutter for one small nightstand. It’s also a lot of chaos right next to where I need to relax and recharge for the day ahead. Take a few minutes before bed to clear it off and give it a good dusting! It will truly help you feel more relaxed before bed. Also, your glasses won’t fall to the floor from lack of room when you finally take them off at 2 AM… is that just me??
A very wise woman once gave me this little tip. One of her life mantras is to clean out her purse and car every Friday. It helps her start the next week off with a little less chaos. I love this! Now, I don’t do this every Friday, I will admit. BUT when I think about it, I do it! This is a lot better than when I was usually cleaning out my purse and car…. NEVER! So, just grab a grocery sack and get going! It never takes as long as I think it will, but I am always so glad that I did it!
These are all just very simple tips to help you stay organized and be more productive this week! Don’t wait until tomorrow… get started today! You’ll be so thankful that you did!
